Canadian Way of Life Under Threat

There are serious concerns about the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) Click here for the top ten reasons why CETA is bad for Canada.

The potential impacts to our society are huge - long-ranging and far-reaching. Interested in shopping local?  Our municipal, provincial, and federal procurement policies will be seriously at risk.

Every level of government could be impacted by this legislation and that's why I've sent emails to Milton councillors, Ontario Premier McGuinty's office, Bob Rae's office, MPP Ted Chudleigh, MP Lisa Raitt and the Milton Canadian Champion.

If CETA is so good for the country, why is it being negotiated in the dark.   We must shine the light on CETA, and have fair discussion on all its ramifications before it's passed.  Once passed there will be no going back. We will be unable to un-do this action.

My signature on all my outgoing email says:  The distance is nothing; it is only the first step that is difficult.
If we make this single step (passing CETA) easy for the federal government, it will change our country as we know it.  Every step after that will be difficult.

We as a nation need to make a decision:  do we want to have control over our policies and programs or do we surrender this sovereignty to multi-national corporations and foreign governments?

Our Canadian way of life is under threat as it never has been before.

Canadian census being dismantled?

Here is an interesting article about the Canadian Census...

During the course of the Post-1901 Census campaign, then opposition Conservative MPs, including now Prime Minister Stephen Harper voiced support for public access to historic Census records. That support in fact, was part of an official Conservative party program. In the past year however, the Conservative government has taken steps that leaves one wondering whether or not there will be any Census records left to view in 92 years.

Milton and Multiculturalism

Further to the topic of the infamous Notice of Motion, there is little I can add to what Mike Grimwood has said below.
Although a probable mis-attribution, the Motion quotes Edmund Burke (more likely Leo Tolstoy in his book "War and Peace"), as saying "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". If we sweep this under the rug, if don't speak to it, this evil will triumph.

I was born in New Zealand and to think that the country of my birth was lumped in as a moral and political cesspool offended me deeply. I know my feelings are shared by other New Canadians, one of whom said he was sickened when he read that Motion. He couldn't even discuss it with his wife, he had her read it for herself.

When I, and others, became citizens of Canada, we took the following oath: "I swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfill my duties as a Canadian citizen."

I am proud to be a Canadian, and I am proud to be have been elected to serve my community, the residents of the Town of Milton.
